TEAM:Sheffield Wednesday
GROUND:Hillsborough
FIRST VISIT:30th October 2004
FIRST MATCH:Sheffield Wednesday 2-2 Chesterfield
Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough is a real traditional old football ground. Sheffield Wednesday moved to Hillsborough in 1899 after leaving there first ground Olive Grove (which you can find photos of on the Other Grounds page).
I have been to Hillsborough a few times. My first visit was to watch Chesterfield play Wednesday in League 1 on 30th October 2004. I have also been inside a few more times. The most memorable of which was during to 20th anniversary of the tragic Hillsborough disaster when 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death on the Leppings Lane End. I stood on the Leppings Lane end on the 20th anniversary and there was a very odd feeling. RIP The 96.
Then on Tuesday 7th October 2010 I re-visited Hillsborough to watch Chesterfield lose 8-7 on penalties in the Johnstone Paints Trophy.
I like Hillsborough, I think its a very nice old traditional ground with lots of character.
