Team:Chesterfield
Ground:Saltergate
First Visit:2nd September 2000
Chesterfield FC played at Saltergate for 139 years, until their final game on May 8th 2010 against Bournemouth, which they won 2-1.
As a Chesterfield fan I have visited many times. My first ever football match was at Saltergate. It was to watch Chesterfield play Barnet in the then 3rd Division (now League 2). Sadly Chesterfield lost 2-1 but I have been going to Saltergate ever since that day. Most of the time when I go to watch my club Chesterfield I sit in the Compton Stand which runs along pitchside. I have also on a few occasions sat in the Main stand which is opposite the Compton and has wooden seating .I have never stood on the Kop which is all standing as is the uncovered away terrace.
2009/10 was Chesterfield’s final ever season at Saltergate and I will be sad to see it go. I have years of memories there and my Dad has even more. I do think that Saltergate has had it’s day though and it is a very old fashioned football ground. However, if the club is going to progress to the higher levels of the football league then Chesterfield have to move to the new B2Net Stadium.
