FIRST MATCH:Sheffield 1-4 York City
Being formed in 1857, Sheffield FC are officially the oldest football team in the world. One thing that I have always wondered is who did they play in the early years before another team (Hallam FC) was formed. Well apparently thy played themselves. Married vs. unmarried and things like that.
I have visited Sheffield’s ground three times, my first visit was on a sunny July day in 2005 when we went along to watch the oldest club in the world lose York City 1-4 in a friendly match.
Since then I have been to watch Chesterfield play friendly matches there for the past 3 years.In August 2008 Chesterfield drew with Sheffield 2-2, in 2009 Chesterfield won 3-1 and in 2010 Sheffield won 4-2.
I also saw both of Sheffield’s 150th anniversary matches at Bramall Lane in 2008 against Inter Milan (2-5) and Ajax (2-0). In the Inter Milan match Pele ran on the pitch!
