About

7-1.15a Hello and welcome to ryan147.com.

I am Ryan Watterson, a 19 year old journalism student from Sheffield.

ryan147.com was set up on 4th June 2009 and has grown ever since – starting as a small hobby and turning into a portfolio of work that has received over 450,000 views to date from more than 100 countries.

My main focuses are football, music and snooker – although I have also  written articles about many other topics including travel, world war  battlefields and more.

I have published hundreds of match reports for this site as well as others, including the Chesterfield Post where I write weekly match reports from the Chesterfield FC press box as well as regularly attending the pre-match press onferences. I have also worked in the press areas and/or had articles published for Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Coventry City, Crewe Alexandra, Notts County, Sheffield FC, Hallam FC, Fleetwood Town and Yeovil Town.

Meanwhile, in music I write about bands big and small and review many gigs in my local area as well as festivals during the BMTHLaunch5summer. I have interviewed many bands including Bowling For Soup and Allusondrugs as well as working at events with the likes of Bring Me The Horizon.

Living in Sheffield means I also have a passion for snooker and have attended the  World Championship at the  Crucible Theatre every year since 2005, getting to know many of the pro’s and writing many articles about the tournaments over the years.

I hope you enjoy your visit to ryan147.com.

Thank you!

Ryan.

  6. Hi Ryan,

I love your site (which referred from TSF as I browsed on the www for more info re Pro Challenge Series). Actually I am planning to watch the tournament in Leeds all the way from Hong Kong, too bad that this is the only active tournament during my time in England. I just finished watching one local tournament in HK last week as Ricky won over Liang Wenbo. See if we can meet up and chat a bit at Northern Snooker Centre. I will arrive on the 28th.

  8. Great to see an updated picture of my hearthrob from the 1980’s Tony Knowles, he still handsome, thanks for posting. Great site btw.
I used to go to Sheffield, every year in the 80’s early 90’s but when Tony faded away; so did I. If you see him; tell him I still think he is handsome at 54!
    GREAT PIC OF HIM.
    THANKS, MADE BY DAY.

  10. Greeting from the Netherlands!
I’m a low-key lady football fan (watch more at International level, Love the World Cup) and like to watch a really good game where the football is stunning more than just supporting one particular team.
To your Dad: excellent to encourage your son and provide the transport, two cool dudes. Ryan, Very cool that you show photos of the Grounds that you visit, keep on blogging, you made me smile and you are doing great!

  15. Hi Ryan,

This is an excellent site! Keep it up.

I used to be a sports journalist and I reckon you’re heading in the same direction…or maybe a commentator?? It’s great to see a piece of work by a bright young man who can spell and gets his grammar right!

  17. Hi Ryan,

I came across your fantastic website while searching for images of the new Chesterfield ground. I’m a lecturer in Media Production at Chesterfield College. We could do with students like yourself on the media production courses we run. I noticed that you are 14, so you must be thinking about your options. Have you thought of going for a career in media/media production?

Check out the college website and media prospectus. Send me an email if you want anymore information.

    Cheers,

    Tom Bell.

  18. Hi Ryan, nice website. We need more switched-on teenagers such as yourself and it’s refreshing to hear of a 14 year old doing something so constructive with his time. Keep up the good work!

Do you play snooker or pool yourself? I belong to the local pool league here on the Isle of Man. I play several times a week, even off-season.

Good luck with your budding career in sports journalism – you’re doing great so far!

    Ann

  19. Hi Ryan,

Really enjoy reading your sites. Try to get round to as many games as possible myself but wish i lived a little closer to the midlands as it’s not so easy with a lot lesser choice from down here in Essex…

Anyway, really love your site. I actually run a football league ground guide myself. Check it out and let me know if you’d like to exchange links.

  20. Hi Ryan
What a great site you have.
I’m from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada where Kirk Stevens used to live,
I know both Kirk and Cliff (they play in the Cambridge Pro-Am tournament every year)
I was looking for info. or videos of them playing on the current Legends Tour, when I came across your site.
Thanks for your great reportage from the Crucible.
I’m looking forward to watching the World’s on British Eurosport and
I’ll be coming back to your site often for your commentary and photo coverage.
Hope you get to hang out with the World’s best next week.
    All the best
    Regards
    Tom

  23. Dear Ryan

I stumbled onto your website through ProSnookerBlog.com and have been reading some of your articles and am a big fan.

The reason I am emailing is because I have a sports radio show on a station in Manchester’s 106.6fm and would love if you were to come onto the show as a guest to talk about snooker.

We could do it over the phone and would take up just 10-15 minutes of your time

I would really appreciate it if you could get back to me by either phone or e-mail

    Yours Sincerely

    Simon Mahon

  24. Great website Ryan – you’ve put a hellava lot of work in and you derserve to go far, and I don’t mean to Portsmouth.
I had the pleasure of talking to your dad today before the Notts v Crawley game – looking at you both – the apple hasn’t rolled far from the tree.
Good luck for the future , you deserve it.
