On Saturday 29th August I went to watch Chesterfield play Morecambe hoping that Chesterfield could continue their unbeaten run after beating Northampton,Notts County and drawing with Shrewsbury in their last two games.
Unfortunately the atmosphere inside the ground today wasn’t great, with an almost empty away end. Morecambe brought just 132 fans and the total attendance was just 3,210.
The first half wasn’t the best quality but Chesterfield were definitely the better side forcing Morecambe’s goalkeeper Barry Roche to make some great diving saves.
The game stayed much the same in the second half with Chesterfield dominating. On the 75th minute Chesterfield’s new signing Wade Small ran down the wing and crossed to Drew Talbot who’s shot hit Jack Lester and ended up in the bottom corner giving Chesterfield a much deserved lead.
However just 4 minutes later Morecambe levelled from the penalty spot when a cross hit Ian Breckin’s hand. I could not see from where I was sat if it was a penalty but it was very disappointing to concede so quickly after. The game ended 1-1 in a match I felt we deserved to win.
