On Tuesday 22nd September 2009 I visited Ossett Town’s Ingfield for the first ever time to watch them play Buxton in the Unbiond Premier Division. Before the game I also visited nearby Ossett Albion for a few photos.
Ossett is a small market town near Wakefield. However, despite the town only being very small Ossett has two football teams. Ossett Town of the Unibond Premier, and Ossett Albion of the Unibond Divison 1 North.
We decided we would visit Ossett Albion first to take a few photos as the 2 grounds are on the same road. We didn’t have time to have a full look round but from looking over the wall I could see they have a rather nice stand on one side. You can see the photos of Ossett Albion below.
Then we made our way to Ossett Town and after taking some photos outside we made our way through the turnstile and into the ground. The ground was nice, with the main stand being behind the goal which is rather unusual as most of the non league grounds I had visited recently had the main stand running along the side of the pitch. There was a nice large clubhouse which was much bigger than the other ones we had been in recently in the ground too.
The game got off to a great start with Buxton scoring from a Tommy Angus goal which was put right in the top corner on the 10th minute. However two powerful headers from Adam Clayton saw Ossett take a 2-1 lead just after the 20 minute mark.
The goal of the game came right on half time when Andy Lee turned on the edge of the box a rocketed a superb goal which the Buxton keeper had no chance of saving.
We had a walk around the ground during half time and took plenty of photos, some of which can be seen below. The second half failed to live up to the excitment of the first with no more goals. Ossett dominated the second half but failed to put away any chances and the game finished 3-1.
The Ossett Town match had the lowest attendance of the evenings play in the Unibond Premier, with just 144.
Overall I had a good time at Ossett Town. A good game and a nice ground meant it was a great evening’s entertainment for us. See below for all the photos of the day.
