Chesterfield 0-1 Rotherham United – League 2

On Tuesday 26th January 2010 I went to watch Chesterfield play there last ever night match at Saltergate.

My report on the game against Crewe Alexandra earlier in the year was meant to be the last ever night match at Saltergate. However the match against Rotherham United, which was due to be played on the 28th December, got postponed and so we had another night game to go to.

We arrived early as usual and took some pictures, then we went into the ground.

The match kicked off at 7.45 infront of a crowd of 4951, and both sides had chances. However neither side seemed to have brought their shooting boots with them as they both missed many good chances by some distance. Even Jack Lester, who had returned from injury, couldn’t make a difference and the score at half time was 0-0.

This continued in the second half, with neither side managing to find the back of the net. Then, just as we were thinking this was two 0-0’s in a row after drawing by the same scoreline to Northampton on Saturday, Rotherham’s Tom Pope got the ball, turned and fired home in the 90th minute. This was very disappointing for the Spireite fans and I felt that 0-0 would have been a fair reflection of the game, however it wasn’t to be.

After the match I got a photo with goalscorer Tom Pope and Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore
