Sheffield FC 1-3 Chesterfield Pre Season

Today (Monday 3rd) we went to watch Chesterfield play the world oldest football club, Sheffield FC in a pre season friendly at the Bright Finance ground.

On arrival at the ground we went into the Coach and Horses pub which is directly next to the ground for a drink. Following that we entered the Bright Finance Stadium where the players were warming up on the pitch. We took some pictures and chatted to few people at the ground that we knew before kick off.

Chesterfield played 7 first team players in this second consecutive friendly in 2 years with Sheffield FC after drawing 2-2 last year. After a minute’s silence for Sir Bobby Robson Sheffield’s Matt Roney put the world’s oldest football club ahead  infront of a crowd of 562 after just 16 minutes with a goal straight from a free kick. Chesterfield were quick to reply with a goal on the 26th minute by Scott Boden and the Spirerites began to dominate the play. Lloyd Kerry gave the spireites the lead on the 39th minute and Martin Grittonfinished Sheffield off with a 69th minute goal to give the away side a 3-1 victory.

Chesterfield played well to win the match and we had a very enjoyable evening at the Bright Finance Stadium for which was our 3rd visit (we have also seen them play York City in 2005 and Chesterfield in 2008). The ground itself is a lovely little non league ground. Sheffield FC are currently in the Unibond Premier Division meaning they are three divisons below Chesterfield in league 2.
