The reigning 6 reds world champion Mark Davis is the latest snooker star to be interviewed on ryan147.com
Mark Davis turned professional at the start of the 1991/92 season. At 37 years of age he seems to have been playing some of the best snooker of his career over the past couple of seasons.
Last season Davis won the first ever 6 reds World Championship, beating Mark Williams 6-3 in the final, in probably the victory of his career. Other tournament wins have been the 2007 German Open and the 2003 B&H Championship, but Mark is yet to have won a ranking event.
Currently 2010 is one of the best years for Mark as he is currently ranked 18th in the World which is his highest ever ranking and in China in March he recorded his highest ever tournament break a 143.
Away from the Snooker table he also got married this year.
Read his Q&A below…
When did you first start playing snooker?
I think I was about 10 or 11 when I started playing the game.
Who were your favourite players when you were younger?
Jimmy White was my favourite player when I was younger.
How old were you when you made your first century break and first maximum break?
I was 13 years old when I made my first century, but I honestly don’t know how old I was when I made my first maximum!
If you were not a Snooker player what do you think you would be doing for a living instead?
If I wasn’t playing Snooker I would probably be doing something with numbers as I am good at maths. Maybe an accountant or something like that.
Do you get nervous before big matches?
I do get nervous before the start of a match. The 30 minutes or so before is the worst, but once you start playing you just try to focus on your game.
How did it feel to win the first ever 6 Red World Championship?
The 6 reds win was great for me. My first World title, so I will always have that to my name. It was a great tournament all round, a good venue and a nice place hosting the tournament.
What is the best venue you have played in?
The best venue is the Crucible. It can be a nightmare if you’re not playing well, but the best place in the world when you’re playing well and winning.
What do you feel has been your career highlight so far?
My career highlight is winning the 6 reds World Championship, as well as winning the Benson and Hedges Qualifying tournament.
Where do you hope to be in 5 years time in terms of ranking position, titles etc.?
I’d just like to be playing and earning a living in 5 years! However, I would like to have won a big tournament by then, and still be playing in the top 32 at the least.
