On Saturday 2nd April 2011 I went to the B2Net Stadium to watch League 2 leaders Chesterfield take on Port Vale.
Before the game today we met up with my Dad’s two cousins, Nick and Andy, who were both making their first visits to the stadium. Nick had actually come across from New York for the game and it had been a long time since my Dad had seen them both so it was nice to meet them both.
Chesterfield started the game well and had plenty of chances in the first half, with ex-Port Vale player Craig Davies hitting both posts early on! However, neither side could break the deadlock in the first half and the two sides went in goalless.
Soon after the interval, Jack Lester gave the home side the lead, converting Dean Morgan’s cross to make it 1-0. Deane Samlley doubled the advantage on the 71st minute when he took the ball around the goalkeeper and put the ball into the empty net.
This victory maintained Chesterfield comfortable 11-point lead at the top of the NPower League 2.
After the game I met Vale players Tom Pope and Geoff Horsfield, and Chesterfield legend Jack Lester.
