Chesterfield’s reserve side made it three wins from four as they comfortably defeated a youthful Rotherham United side 3-0 at the Proact Stadium in the Central League North East Division.
Managed by veteran player and PFA chairman Ritchie Humphreys, the Spireites’ second string bounced back from a 3-1 defeat at York City three weeks earlier to get back to winning ways in style.
Joe Rowley opened the scoring after 17 minutes with a header that caught out the Millers’ goalkeeper and looped into the net.
Forward Ricky German, who recently signed a professional contract for the club, look a major threat up front alongside trialist Shaun Okojie and it was German who doubled the lead before the interval with a confident finish into the far corner at the end of a powerful run.
The hosts remained totally dominant for the duration and could have scored plenty more before eventually making it 3-0 in the 77th minute, courtesy once again of the impressive German, which came just four minutes after Kai Herbert had somehow fired over Rotherham’s best and only noteworthy chance of the afternoon.
The Chesterfield reserves are next in action in just under a months time when they travel to Hartlepool United, before hosting rivals Mansfield Town – who they defeated 4-2 earlier in the season, at the Proact Stadium on the 15th November.
