Chesterfield 3-0 Fleetwood Town – League 1

Chesterfield ended a run of four consecutive defeats with an impressive performance to defeat Fleetwood Town 3-0 on Saturday 28th February 2015.

Goals from Caolan Lavery and Sam Hird gave the Spireites a commanding lead at half time.

Sam Morsy’s strike just after the hour mark then sealed the victory for the home side; who gave an excellent performance on the back of a poor run to keep their play off hopes alive.

Chesterfield 2-3 Leyton Orient – League 1

Chesterfield fell to a second defeat in the space of a week as bottom-placed Leyton Orient earned a shock victory at the Proact Stadium on Valentines Day 2015.

The Spireites led 1-0 and 2-1, but were pegged back on both occasions. Dean  Cox then made it 3-2 in the 11th minute of additional time to grab a dramatic victory.

Chesterfield 0-2 Preston North End – League 1

Chesterfield fell to their first home defeat in nearly two months on Tuesday 10th February 2015, as Preston North End ran out 2-0 winners at the Proact Stadium.

The Spireites were forced to play almost the entire game with ten men after Sam Hird saw red in the second minute. And the visitors took full advantage, earning a third consecutive win courtesy of a brace from the returning Joe Garner.

Chesterfield 2-2 Doncaster Rovers – League 1

There was late drama at the Proact Stadium as Chesterfield fought back from 2-0 down to salvage a point against Doncaster Rovers on 31st January 2015.

The visitors got off to the perfect start as they raced into a 2-0 lead after just nine minutes courtesy of strikes from James Coppinger and Andy Butler.

But a spirited Spireites fightback saw Eoin Doyle pull one back on the stroke of half time. Jimmy Ryan’s 87th equaliser then earned Chesterfield a good point and ensured they remained in fifth place at the end of January.

Chesterfield 3-0 Crawley Town – League 1

Chesterfield comfortably swept aside struggling Crawley Town to move up to fifth in the League 1 table on Tuesday 27th January 2015.

After a tight opening, Eoin  Doyle brought the game to life with a neat finish that put the home side ahead.

A beautiful curling strike from Jay O’Shea put distant between the Spireites and their bottom-placed opposition, before Doyle’s 24th goal of the season just moments later wrapped up the 3-0 win.

Derby County 2-0 Chesterfield – FA Cup 4th Round

Derby County brought Chesterfield’s FA Cup run to an end with a 2-0 victory at the iPro Stadium on Saturday 24th January.

Darren Bent opened the scoring with a header on his Rams debut after 20 minutes.

The Spireites fought back and dominated much of the action in the second period, but couldn’t find the net, and Will Hughes’82nd minute goal sealed Derby’s victory in this Derbyshire Derby to put them in Round 5.

Chesterfield 3-0 Port Vale – League 1

Chesterfield outclassed rival play-offs challengers Port Vale to move within just a single point of the top six.

Armand Gnanduillet opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a header. The club’s top scorer Eoin Doyle doubled the advantage on the hour before Charlie Raglan’s first goal for the Spireites completed a comfortable 3-0 victory.

It was an impressive showing for the home side, who remained in 7th position as they moved six games unbeaten.

Chesterfield 3-2 Peterborough United – League 1

The Proact Stadium’s final game of 2014 saw Chesterfield defeat Peterborough United in a five-goal thriller on 26th December.

An own goal from Gabriel Zakuani, followed by strikes from Armand Gnanduillet and Eoin Doyle, saw the Spireites race into a 3-0 lead in less than an hour.

But Posh pulled one back through Michael Bostwick’s header and Marcus Maddison ensured a nervy final 20 minutes for the home side when he narrowed the deficit to just one.

However, Chesterfield managed to hold on to the victory in an entertaining contest. The win saw them move just two points from the play offs.

Chesterfield 0-1 Bradford City – League 1

Chesterfield fell to their first defeat in seven games as Bradford City ran out 1-0 winners at the Proact Stadium on Saturday 13th December 2014.

Billy Clarke’s superb second half strike proved to be the difference between the two sides as the Bantams moved to within a point of the play off spots.

The Spireites had earlier been reduced to ten men after Sam Morsy received a straight red card after an incident that saw his arm raised towards Bradford’s Andy Halliday.

The defeat ends a dreadful week for Chesterfield, who were charged on Monday for fielding an ineligible player in their second round victory over MK Dons and face being kicked out of the FA Cup.

Chesterfield 2-1 Barnsley – League 1

IMG_9411 Chesterfield ended a run of seven league games without a win as they defeated local side Barnsley 2-1 on Saturday 22nd November. A brace from Eoin Doyle, the country’s top scorer, put the Spireites 2-0 ahead before a late goal from Keith Treacy pulled one back for the Tykes to set up a nervous conclusion. However, the home side managed to hold on and see out an important victory at the Proact Stadium. (more…)
