Preston North End 3-0 Chesterfield – League 1 Play Offs Semi-Final (2nd Leg) (PNE win 4-0 on aggregate)

Chesterfield’s magnificent campaign came to an end on 10th May 2015 as Preston North End booked their place in the League 1 play off final.

A brace from Jermaine Beckford – including a wonder strike from the halfway line, and a penalty from Joe Garner were enough to earn the home side a 3-0 victory and reach Wembley.

Preston North End earned a slim lead over Chesterfield in the first leg of the League 1 play off semi-final on Thursday 7th April 2015.

Jermaine Beckford scored the only goal of the game after just six minutes after Chris Humphrey’s pass cut through a nervy Spireites’ defence.

The hosts responded strongly – Gary Roberts and Ollie Banks both coming agonisingly close to scoring in the second half, but a solid Preston defensive unit held on and head back to Deepdale on Sunday with a 1-0 lead in the tie.

On a personal note, this was my first time reporting from the press box at the Proact Stadium – a very exciting experience and one I look forward to continuing next season!

Chesterfield 0-2 Preston North End – League 1

Chesterfield fell to their first home defeat in nearly two months on Tuesday 10th February 2015, as Preston North End ran out 2-0 winners at the Proact Stadium.

The Spireites were forced to play almost the entire game with ten men after Sam Hird saw red in the second minute. And the visitors took full advantage, earning a third consecutive win courtesy of a brace from the returning Joe Garner.
