Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Benfica – Pre-Season Friendly
Sheffield Wednesday continued their 100% pre-season record with an impressive 1-0 win over 35-time Portuguese champions Benfica on Wednesday evening.
Fernando Forestieri’s well-taken first half goal was enough to earn the Owls victory against the twice European champions in Hillsborough’s first match over the new campaign.
Hallam 0-6 Sheffield Wednesday – Pre-Season Friendly
A young Sheffield Wednesday side outclassed Hallam with a dominant 6-0 victory at Sandygate on Monday evening.
Three goals in six first half minutes gave the Owls a 3-0 advantage at the break. Three more came in the second period – including a Devante Rodney spot kick and a Simon Mirfin own goal, to complete a comfortable outing for the youngsters.
Chesterfield 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday – Pre-Season Friendly
Chesterfield got their pre-season campaign underway with a defeat as first half goals from Kieran Lee and Fernando Forestieri earned Sheffield Wednesday a comfortable 2-0 victory.
The Owls started the contest strongly and Lee converted Jack Hunt’s cross from close range to open the scoring in the ninth minute.
Nineteen minutes later, Forestieri finished off a good move from the visitors with a low strike past goalkeeper Ryan Fulton to double the advantage.
From then on the outcome never really looked in doubt, despite a few decent opportunities for the Spireites, and Wednesday saw out victory in a second half that lacked any real flow or urgency.
Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Arsenal – League Cup 4th Round
Sheffield Wednesday stunned Premier League opponents Arsenal with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.
Goals from Ross Wallace, Lucas Joao and Sam Hutchinson booked the Owls’ place in the League Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 2002 as they outclassed the 13-time league title winners on a memorable evening in the steel city.
Despite making nine changes, Arsene Wenger’s side still included the likes of Champions League winning goalkeeper Petr Cech and World Cup winner Per Mertesacker, as well as a host of other recognisable names. But the Gunners proved no match for their Championship opposition, creating only one chance of note all evening, and Wednesday ran out winners in a contest that will live long in their memory.
Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 Mansfield Town – Capital One Cup 1st Round
Sheffield Wednesday comfortably defeated lower league opponents Mansfield Town 4-1 at Hillsborough to book their place in the second round of the Capital One Cup.
Headed goals from Portugese duo Lucas Joao and Jose Semedo put the hosts in a dominating position inside 20 minutes.
A late first half rally rewarded the Stags with a goal of their own from Ryan Tafazolli, but the outcome rarely looked in doubt and the Owls completed a comfortable evening with second half goals from Kieran Lee and debutant Modou Sougou.
Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Norwich City – Championship
Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City battled out a goalless draw at Hillsborough on Saturday 25th October 2014.
Both sides were good value for the draw in the end. But it was a number of top quality saves from goalkeeper Keiren Westwood that really earned The Owls a point against the promotion challenging Canaries.
