Hallam 5-1 Rossington Main – NCEL Division 1

hallamrossm3

Michael Blythen’s hat-trick helped Hallam to a 5-1 victory over Rossington Main on Wednesday night as manager Ryan Hindley celebrated one year at the helm in style.

The visitors, who were reduced to ten men in the second half, had started stronglyand took an early lead when Ben Hunter converted from the spot after being tripped in the area.

However, Josh Statham restored parity before the break and a Hallam victory rarely looked in doubt as Blythen scored three times in 21 minutes before Brodie Cooper completed the rout late on.

The result was a fitting way to celebrate a year under the management of Hindley, who has transformed the club’s fortunes, and sets up an exciting game between second-placed Hallam and 3rd-placed Hemsworth Miners Welfare on Non-League Day at the weekend.

Michael Blythen’s double earned Hallam a draw in an action-packed and entertaining game with AFC Emley at Sandygate.

In-form Emley, who put ten goals past Winterton Rangers at the weekend, led twice through Sam Jerome and Alex Slack goals either side of half time.

But Blythen was the hero for the hosts and capitalised on a terrible defensive mix-up to salvage an important point late in the day.

It was a case of ‘men against boys’ at Sandygate on Monday 20th July 2015 as Hallam comfortably defeated a young Chesterfield side 4-1.

Two goals in either half gave the dominant North Counties East League club a deserved victory, an own goal from defender Josh Statham providing their only blemish on the score sheet for the hosts on a chilly summer’s evening at the world’s oldest football ground.
