Foo Fighters – Live at the National Bowl, Milton Keynes

FooMain

Foo Fighters headlined the Milton Keynes National Bowl for the second consecutive night as part of their makeshift ‘Break a Leg’ UK Tour.

Having originally planned to perform at London’s Wembley Stadium back in June, a fall from stage in Sweden left frontman Dave Grohl with a broken leg and forced to cancel a number of shows including Wembley and Glastonbury Festival.

But on this warm September evening in Milton Keynes, the band made it up to their adoring UK fans in the best possible way by putting on a hit-packed show to remember – with a little help from Royal Blood and Iggy Pop along the way!

Chesterfield 2-3 Wigan Athletic – League 1

CFCWIGAN1

Three goals in the final nine minutes saw Wigan Athletic turn around a two-goal deficit to earn all three points on a crazy and dramatic afternoon in Chesterfield.

A thunderbolt from Dan Gardner broke the deadlock after a relatively uneventful first half. Leon Barnett’s bizarre headed own goal then doubled the Spireites’ advantage in the 68th minute.

But just as the home side appeared to be cruising to a fourth victory of the season, Barnett made up for his earlier error with an excellent 81st minute strike to give the Latics hope,

Former Chesterfield hero Craig Davies then restored parity from the spot, before Jordy Hiwula poked home in the 90th minute – completing a memorable comeback and sending the Spireites fans home stunned.

Barcelona 1-1 Athletic Bilbao (1-5 on agg) – Supercopa de España

BarcaBilbao1

Athletic Bilbao lifted the 2015 Supercopa de España at Barcelona’s Camp Nou, defeating the La Liga and Copa Del Rey champions 5-1 on aggregate.

Having led 4-0 after a remarkable first leg in Bilbao, Athletic defended valiantly against the efforts of their attacking opponents and Aritz Aduriz’s 74th minute goal ensured they lifted their first title since 1984.

On a personal level, this evening’s game saw me fulfill a lifelong dream of witnessing a match at the largest stadium in Europe and, as an extra bonus, seeing four-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi play and score for Barcelona.

Sheffield United 2-0 Chesterfield – League 1

SUFCSpireitesMedia1

A brace from 19 year old Che Adams handed Sheffield United a 2-0 victory over Chesterfield on the competitive home debut of new boss Nigel Adkins.

It was a tight battle between these two local rivals, who both fell short in the League 1 play offs last season, but goals at the start of either half proved to be killer blows as the Blades secured their first three points of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 Mansfield Town – Capital One Cup 1st Round

SWFCMansfield18

Sheffield Wednesday comfortably defeated lower league opponents Mansfield Town 4-1 at Hillsborough to book their place in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

Headed goals from Portugese duo Lucas Joao and Jose Semedo put the hosts in a dominating position inside 20 minutes.

A late first half rally rewarded the Stags with a goal of their own from Ryan Tafazolli, but the outcome rarely looked in doubt and the Owls completed a comfortable evening with second half goals from Kieran Lee and debutant Modou Sougou.
