Chesterfield 3-0 Gillingham – League 1

Chesterfield returned to winning ways on Tuesday 17th March 2015 with an impressive 3-0 victory against Gillingham.

The Spireites made sure that Saturday’s home defeat was quickly forgotten as they raced into a two-goal lead inside 12 minutes thanks to goals from Sam Clucas and Jay O’Shea.

And Clucas, who played the role of striker following Caolan Lavery’s return to Sheffield Wednesday, rounded off an excellent performance with a goal in 88th minute to keep the Derbyshire club’s play off dreams alive for another day.

Chesterfield 2-3 Coventry City – League 1

Chesterfield took a major blow to their play off dreams with a 3-2 defeat to strugglers Coventry City on Saturday 14th March 2015.

Despite finding the net in either half courtesy of Jay O’Shea and late substitute Gboly Ariyibi, the Spireites fell to a third home defeat out of four as Marcus Tudgay, Sanmi Odelusi and Frank Nouble all scored for the Sky Blues in an entertaining encounter.

It was a day of firsts for Coventry, who picked up their first victory under experienced new manager Tony Mowbray on their first ever visit to the Proact Stadium.

Chesterfield 0-1 Bradford City – League 1

Chesterfield fell to their first defeat in seven games as Bradford City ran out 1-0 winners at the Proact Stadium on Saturday 13th December 2014.

Billy Clarke’s superb second half strike proved to be the difference between the two sides as the Bantams moved to within a point of the play off spots.

The Spireites had earlier been reduced to ten men after Sam Morsy received a straight red card after an incident that saw his arm raised towards Bradford’s Andy Halliday.

The defeat ends a dreadful week for Chesterfield, who were charged on Monday for fielding an ineligible player in their second round victory over MK Dons and face being kicked out of the FA Cup.

Chesterfield 2-1 Barnsley – League 1

IMG_9411 Chesterfield ended a run of seven league games without a win as they defeated local side Barnsley 2-1 on Saturday 22nd November. A brace from Eoin Doyle, the country’s top scorer, put the Spireites 2-0 ahead before a late goal from Keith Treacy pulled one back for the Tykes to set up a nervous conclusion. However, the home side managed to hold on and see out an important victory at the Proact Stadium. (more…)

Chesterfield 0-3 Swindon Town – League 1

Chesterfield were comfortably beaten by Swindon Town at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday 28th October 2014.

The Robins provided one of the best attacking performances in recent memory as they ran out 3-0 winners on a rainy Tuesday night in North Derbyshire. Two goals in four first half minutes from Yaser Kasim and Nathan Byrne put Swindon well on their way to victory. And a third from Andy Williams in the 70th minute guaranteed that they travelled back down South with all three points.
