The Vaselines – Live at Plug, Sheffield

“This is a song by a band called The Vaselines. They’re from Edinburgh, Scotland. And they’re very punk rock.”

Those were the first words uttered by Kurt Cobain to a packed-out crowd at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle on 31st  October, 1991. The quiet, long-haired genius then preceded to kick off Nirvana’s Halloween show with a powerful rendition of ‘Jesus Doesn’t  Want Me For A Sunbeam’.

23 years on and this small band from the Scottish capital, admired so greatly by one of the icon’s of music history, embarked on Sheffield’s Plug venue on 27th November 2014 for their penultimate show of the year. (more…)

Chesterfield 2-1 Barnsley – League 1

IMG_9411 Chesterfield ended a run of seven league games without a win as they defeated local side Barnsley 2-1 on Saturday 22nd November. A brace from Eoin Doyle, the country’s top scorer, put the Spireites 2-0 ahead before a late goal from Keith Treacy pulled one back for the Tykes to set up a nervous conclusion. However, the home side managed to hold on and see out an important victory at the Proact Stadium. (more…)

Twin Atlantic – Live at the O2 Academy, Sheffield

Twin Atlantic headlined Sheffield’s O2 Academy on Wednesday 29th October 2014 as part of their UK Tour following the release of their third album ‘Great Divide’.

Supported by ‘Nothing But Thieves’ and ‘The Xcerts’, the highly-rated Scottish rockers put on a superb live performance that left the Sheffield crowd buzzing.

Chesterfield 0-3 Swindon Town – League 1

Chesterfield were comfortably beaten by Swindon Town at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday 28th October 2014.

The Robins provided one of the best attacking performances in recent memory as they ran out 3-0 winners on a rainy Tuesday night in North Derbyshire. Two goals in four first half minutes from Yaser Kasim and Nathan Byrne put Swindon well on their way to victory. And a third from Andy Williams in the 70th minute guaranteed that they travelled back down South with all three points.
